Seahawks first-rounder out for 3-4 weeks after surgery, unlikely to be available for Week 1

During the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, Jaxon Smith-Njigba suffered a wrist fracture while he made a beautiful 48-yard catch.

The severity of the injury was confirmed after a thorough examination by the medical team.

Well, Smith-Njigba’s injury come as a majo blow to the Seahawks’ offensive plans for the upcoming regular season.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll addressed the media on Tuesday and confirmed the reports of an injury.

According to Carroll, Smith-Njigba has suffered a “slight fracture” and is set to undergo surgery after consulting with a specialist.

He stated that the initial expectation is for Smith-Njigba to be out for a period of 3-4 weeks.

However, this news comes at a time when the Seahawks’ will open their season on September 10th against the Los Angeles Rams.

However, when asked about the potential participation of Smith-Njigba in Week 1, coach Carroll expressed “We’re staying optimistic,”

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, made a notable impact in the two preseason games catching six passes for 83 yards.

Smith-Njigba was selected with the 20th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft out of Ohio State.

Meanwhile, Head coach Carroll had just positive things to say to reporters:

“ Oh, man, he’s really, really natural,” Carroll said. “He’s really a natural athlete, gifted in his timing, in and out of breaks and things and his feel. He also has, which we saw this in the workout at school, he’s got great change of direction in him, and he’s got this marvelous ability to get in and out of his turns.”
