Who will start for the Cardinals in place of Kyler Murray? Arizona HC still hasn’t decided

The Cardinals will be opening their NFL season with a trip to the capital to face the Commanders, but Head Coach Jonathan Gannon is yet to pick a starting quarterback.

Preferred starter Kyler Murray is still nursing an ACL tear, so the spotlight falls on the next in line.

Many expect Colt McCoy to be the line-caller in Washington, after he started in the first two preseason games, but Gannon is keeping his cards close to his chest.

"When we need to name starters we’ll name the starters," Gannon told the club’s website earlier in the week.

"He’s [McCoy] is doing a good job. I thought he operated well. I think he’s getting more and more comfortable with what we are asking him to do," he added.

McCoy played college football for Texas and enjoyed a decent preseason, playing 24 snaps, passing 9-of-12 for 42 yards.

Gannon’s policy leaves the door ajar for fifth round Rookie Clayton Tune, but he has been all over the place, with a 25-of-47 passing for 268 yards.

He threw for one touchdown and one interception and Gannon is a fan of his mobility and quick feet.

Murray is likely out until early 2024 so one of McCoy or Tune will be squaring up with the Commanders.
