Yankees losing streak: More alarming stats come to the fore after NYY slips to their 9th straight defeat

The last time the New York Yankees went on a nine-match losing streak was 41 years ago, meaning no player on their roster was even alive to witness the misery.

The Yankees hit that unwanted number when they lost 2-1 to the Capitals at home, this after a narrow 6-5 loss to the Chicago Red Sox.

The losing margins may be small, but the losing streak is gaining momentum.

The Yankees take on the Capitals again tomorrow night and they will be hoping for a win and avoiding another franchise statistical anomaly.

Meanwhile, currently the Yankees sit bottom of the AL East division with a losing record of 60-65.

Every franchise bar the Yankees had this losing streak from 1983-2023, but the New York team joined the losing list this week.

Their all-time longest losing streak happened in 1908, with 12 games lost on the bounce.

They are still far from the all-time longest MLB losing streak with the 1961 Phillies going 23 for zero.

The Yankees will probably not match the Phillies, but they will not be happy as their playoff hopes have shuddered to a halt.

The Yankees are still off the worst 2022 team, the LA Angels, who went down in 14 straight losses starting in May and ending in June 2022.
