In a recent announcement that surprised many, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed that DeMarcus Ware will be the latest inductee into the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor.

The announcement was made at the Cowboys’ Season Kickoff event on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

DeMarcus Ware, 41, will become the 20th player to be added to the facade of AT&T Stadium, joining the prestigious Ring of Honor that includes two executives, Tex Schramm and Gil Brandt, and coach Tom Landry.

The last inductee was Brandt, who earned his place in the Ring in 2018.

Ware, a former edge rusher for the Cowboys, played for the team from 2005 to 2013. During his tenure, he became the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks with 117.

His induction into the Ring of Honor comes just 18 days after Jones proposed Ware for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

However, the decision to honor Ware has also highlighted the ongoing delay in inducting Jimmy Johnson into the Ring of Honor.

Despite agreeing to induct Johnson in 2021, Jones is yet to follow through on his promise, leading to criticism and speculation.

Well, Jones and Johnson are the team’s only Hall of Famers not in the Ring of Honor. Jones was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017, while Johnson earned his spot in Canton in 2020.
