New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones is currently facing an uncertain future due to an ongoing legal situation.
Jones was arrested in June for allegedly carrying two loaded guns and ammunition in a carry-on bag at Logan Airport.
His court date, originally scheduled for last Friday, has been postponed to September, falling between Weeks 1 and 2 of the Patriots" schedule.
Despite the legal challenges, Jones remains hopeful about his availability for the Patriots" Week 1 game against the Eagles. “I hope so. I mean, I hope I"m available [for Week 1]," Jones said.
He has been trying to keep his focus on the field, despite the off-field distractions. “At times it can be difficult. But I try not to let the outside affect what"s going on on the field," Jones told reporters in Foxboro after Wednesday"s practice.
However, the NFL could also potentially impose discipline due to the nature of Jones" legal situation.
When asked about the possibility of an NFL investigation or punishment, Jones stated, “I don"t really know. Not that I"ve heard so far. I mean, right now it"s just day to day. That"s all I can really say about that."
Jones, 25, is a key player in the Patriots" defense. If available, he is expected to be a starter alongside rookie Christian Gonzalez.
Jones started last week"s preseason game at the two cornerback spots in Green Bay, recording two tackles and one pass defense.
The ongoing legal situation presents a significant challenge for Jones and the Patriots. The outcome could potentially impact the team"s defensive lineup for the start of the season.
