Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is preparing to make a significant impact on the team’s offense in their final postseason outing this week.
After a limited first season with the Browns due to a suspension, Watson is eager to finally take the reins of the team’s offense.
Watson’s first season with the Browns saw him limited to just six games, his first game action for any team since the 2020 season. As a result, the offense struggled to find its rhythm with Watson on the field.
However, Watson believes that the additional time spent with head coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt has allowed him to take more ownership of the team’s offensive strategy.
“AVP and Kevin gave me the keys and they’re letting me control a lot of things that we do on the field. That comes over time,” Watson said.
“Me understanding this offense. Understanding what they want to do and what schemes we want to do in the run game and the passing game. Just being able to build that trust, build that ownership up, taking control of the offense and being on the field and being that coach and player at the same time.”
Watson, who led the league in passing yards in 2020, is expected to return to full-time status, and the Browns are banking on this leading to a return to form for their quarterback.
The team is hopeful that Watson’s increased involvement and understanding of the offensive strategy will translate into a more cohesive and effective offense on the field.
With the “keys” to the offense now in his hands, Watson is ready to steer the Browns towards success in their final postseason outing and beyond.
