Indianapolis Colt star running back Jonathan Taylor recently requested to be traded in response to an ongoing contract dispute. The Colts have permitted Taylor to seek a trade, however, they’ve only given him until Aug. 29 to find a trade partner.
It has been reported by ESPN’s Stephen Holder that six teams have expressed interest but only two have sent offers and the Colts turned down offers from two teams, including the Miami Dolphins. Holder also broke the news that the Colts are seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Taylor.
The Dolphins have been persistent in their pursuit of improving the running back room this offseason. They spent a third-round draft pick on Texas A&M running back Devon Achane this offseason and were courting free agent running back Dalvin Cook before he ultimately decided to sign with the New York Jets.
Taylor’s request to be traded stems from the Colts not meeting his demands in contract extension negotiations. Any team that trades for Taylor will likely need to pay him. A change of scenery does not change his stance on wanting a new contract, complicating these trade discussions even further.
Taylor is currently on the PUP list due to an ankle injury that also forced him to miss six games last season and undergo offseason surgery. He has been away from the team consistently throughout the offseason as he looks to resolve this matter before teams have to finalize their 53-man rosters on Aug. 29.
