Several NFL stars such as Victor Cruz, Dwight Freeney, Bradley Chubb, and Ed Reed all put their figurative hats in the ring to be considered as captain’s pick.
NFL players are not the only celebrities lobbying for a spot on the US Ryder Cup team. Rapper Ja Rule’s pitch to Zach Johnson is that the US team “needs someone there to make them laugh, have fun, pour the drinks…” AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys offered to give Johnson backstage passes to the next Backstreet Boys concert.
In addition to Johnson, Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Patrick Cantlay, and Max Homa are representing the US team at the Ryder Cup next month thus far.
The European Ryder Cup team is currently headlined by Captain Luke Donald along with Jon Rahm, Rory Mcllroy, and Viktor Hovland.
The 2023 Ryder Cup is currently set to take place near Rome, Italy at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. The Ryder Cup teams are expected to be fully confirmed in mid-September. It will be fascinating to see how the rosters shake out between now and then.
