New York Giants Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley has made it known that if it were up to him he’d finish his career with the team that drafted him.

Although, that was before his contract negotiations with the team reached the heights they did this offseason.

Even after not getting the financial security he wanted this offseason, Barkley hasn’t changed his tune. He remains hopeful that he will be able to finish his career with the team even after the negotiations didn’t necessarily end how he may have wanted.

“Oh, yeah. I don’t think that really changed,” Barkley said to the New York Post when asked if he still wants to be a Giant for life. “They know how I feel, I’m not really too focused on that right now,” Barkley added.

After being unable to come to terms on a long-term agreement and Barkley threatened to hold out for a new contract, the Giants gave Barkley a modest pay raise for this upcoming season. Instead of the $10.091 million he’d be making on the franchise tag this coming season, he and the Giants agreed to a one-year, $11 million extension.

Barkley played a huge role in the Giants returning to the NFL Playoffs for the first time since 2016 under first-year head coach Brian Daboll. He ran for 1,312 yards while adding 57 receptions and 338 yards through the air and scored 10 touchdowns.

The Giants are currently set to host the Cowboys in Week 1 of the regular season on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
