In a recent update, Panthers head coach Frank Reich provided some insights into the injury status of right guard Austin Corbett.
Coach Reich mentioned in an interview back in April that he didn’t anticipate Corbett being ready for Week 1, so the latest news doesn’t come as a surprise.
Surprisingly, on Saturday the team, officially announced that starting right guard Austin Corbett, fourth-round pick Chandler Zavala, defensive end Jalen Redmond, and defensive tackle John Penisini have been placed on the active-physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Nevertheless, if a player has not been taken off the PUP list ahead of the final cut-down deadline on Aug. 29, he will be forced to miss at least the first four games of the regular season, as he won’t count against the 53-man roster, as he will be moved to the PUP reserve list.
Corbett suffered a left ACL tear in the Panthers’ 2022 season finale against New Orleans, and the injury has kept him out of action since then, even throughout the offseason program this spring.
However, in Corbett’s absence, the second lineman Mays came in the Panthers’ playoff game against the Saints last January when he was called upon to replace the injured Corbett be played alongside with Michael Jordan and Justin McCray.
