Jonathan Taylor trade update: With the trade deadline ending today, NFL insider doubts the success of the trade

Star running back Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts have been at an impasse after the two sides failed to agree on a contract extension. Since, Taylor has requested to be traded and the Colts have given him a deadline to find a trade partner, but an NFL insider has his doubts about whether a trade will happen.

Today, Aug. 29, is the last day of the deadline the Colts gave Taylor. Finding a trade partner hasn’t been the difficult part for Taylor and the Colts. Finding a team that is willing to meet the Colts’ asking price and also give Taylor the lofty contract extension he is seeking makes this a difficult trade to complete this late in the offseason:

ESPN’s Senior NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, recently said “It is not an easy trade to pull off.”

Taylor has made his intentions clear that he wants to be amongst the league’s highest-paid running backs, which is a tall task in itself given the current state of the running back position and its perceived value throughout NFL front offices.

2022 was an injury-riddled season to forget for Taylor that saw him play only 11 games while rushing for less than 1,100 yards in a season for the first time in his three-year NFL career.

In 2021, Taylor took the league by storm when he eclipsed 2,000 yards from scrimmage and led all players in rushing yards while scoring 20 total touchdowns, earning a 2021 All-Pro selection for his efforts.

Whether or not Taylor gets traded before Week 1 of the regular season is the biggest offseason domino that has yet to fall.
