Kyler Murray Injury Update: How Many Games Will Murray Miss? Latest After QB Still on Pup List

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray will be sidelined for at least the first four games of the 2023 season.

Murray, who is still rehabilitating from an ACL tear, will begin the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

According to reports from Dov Kleiman, Murray’s absence from the initial games of the season has been confirmed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The Cardinals’ head coach, Gannon, stated that Murray will start on either the PUP list or the Injured Reserve (IR) list. However, it is more likely that the team will keep him on PUP to save a roster spot.

If Murray remains on the PUP list, the earliest he can rejoin team practices is October 2, following the Cardinals’ Week 4 game against the 49ers.

Murray emphasized that he does not want to rush his return and risk further harm to himself or the team. He expressed confidence in knowing when the right time to come back will be.

Recovering from an ACL injury varies for each individual, as highlighted by Gannon, who compared Murray’s rehabilitation to that of tight end Zach Ertz. Ertz was activated off the PUP list on August 15.

Gannon emphasized that Murray’s health is of utmost importance and that both football-related and rehab-related plans are being implemented.

The earliest possible game for Murray’s return is on October 8 when the Cardinals face the Bengals at home.

However, if he is not fully recovered by then, he may continue to remain on the sidelines beyond the initial four games.

In light of Murray’s health situation and the decision to release veteran quarterback Colt McCoy, the Cardinals’ acquisition of Joshua Dobbs now appears to be a strategic move.

Additionally, rookie cornerback Garrett Williams, who is also rehabbing from an ACL injury, will start the season on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, requiring him to miss a minimum of four games.

The Cardinals and their fans eagerly await Murray’s return, hoping for a swift recovery that will allow him to showcase his talents on the field once again.
