MMQB’s Senior NFL Reporter Albert Breer has reported that the Minnesota Vikings are making “an effort” to give their All-Pro wide receiver, Justin Jefferson, a contract extension before the Vikings Week 1 showdown versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jefferson is assuredly going to reset the wide receiver market if/when he signs his lucrative contract extension. At 24 years old, Jefferson is arguably already the best receiver in the NFL.

Drafted with the No. 22 overall selection of the 2020 NFL Draft, Jefferson has rewritten history since entering the league.

He set the league on fire in his rookie season when he caught 88 receptions for 1,400 yards to go along with seven touchdowns. Jefferson followed up the historic rookie campaign with yet another elite season, totaling 108 receptions, 1,616 yards, and 10 touchdowns in 2021.

Last season, under first-year head coach Kevin O’Connell, Jefferson elevated his performance yet again. He led the NFL in receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809) en route to being named the 2022 AP Offensive Player of the Year and earning All-Pro honors.

Jefferson has made it to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons and somehow continues to improve each year despite already being one of the game’s most talented players.

The Vikings seem prepared and willing to give Justin Jefferson the long-term deal he’s asking for in hopes of wrapping up these contract negotiations as soon as possible. Once completed, he will continue wreaking havoc on opposing defenses and being the face of the Vikings franchise for the foreseeable future.
