The new NFL season is about to kick off, with week 1 starting on 8 September with the Chiefs entertaining the Lions in the Friday night opener.

As part of the thrilling build-up, we look at ten of the best quarterbacks calling the lines this campaign, starting with Jared Goff at number 10 and working our way to the number one ranked spot.

10: Jared Goff, Lions

Goff is the starting QB for the Detroit Lions and will be involved in the season opening game against the Superbowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Goff was the number one overall pick in the 2016 draft, with the LA Rams opting for the California Golden Bears QB. He is a 3-time Pro-Bowler, and holds the NFL record, tied first Drew Bledisloe for the most completions in a regular season game (45).

9: Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Jackson will open the Ravens season in week 1 against the Texans on Sunday 10 September. This will be Jackson’s fifth season for the Ravens, and much is expected of Louisville alumni. Jackson helped the Ravens to a winning 10-7 season last time out and will be hoping for a better yield. The NFL MVP of 2019 is a former First-Team All-Pro, Bert Bell Award winner and the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner. He has a career 12,209 passing yards and 4,437 rushing yards.

8: Jalen Hurts, Eagles

Hurts will open the Eagles campaign against the Patriots in week 1, away in New England, and will want to hit the ground running. He has been with the Philly team since 2020, where he was picked 53rd overall. He has exceeded expectations in his short career, leading the Eagles to an impressive 14-3 season last time out. Hurts has 7,906 passing yards and 1,889 rushing yards in his brief career.

 7: Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars

Larence will open the Jaguars season in week 1 against the Colts at home, and will hope for another strong campaign. The former Clemson player has looked good, helping the team to a comfortable 31-18 preseason win against the Dolphins. A 2022 Pro-bowler, he has 7,754 passing yards and 625 rushing yards and has been a staple at the Jacksonville team since being selected overall first in the 2021 draft.

6: Aaron Rodgers, Jets

Rodgers will hope to spark new life into the New York Jets this season, after a 7-10 season, and last place in the AFC East. The Jets open their campaign on Tuesday 12 September at home against the Bills. The 39-year-old is a Superbowl champion at the Packers, where he spent 17 seasons, passing for 59,055 yards and 3,466 rushing yards. He has won almost every accolade imaginable a 4-time NFL MVP.

5: Dak Prescott, Cowboys

The former Mississippi State QB has been with the Cowboys since 2016, garnering a reputation as a growing star. He was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2016 after being picked 135th in the 2016 draft. Jerry Jones must be smacking his lips at the signing of Prescott, as the QB has delivered big time, after being signed as back-up to Tony Romo. The Cowboys finished with a 12-5 record last campaign and will be leaning on Prescott this season.

4: Justin Herbert, LA Chargers

Herbert, the sixth overall pick in the 2020 draft, was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Season in 2020 and a Pro-Bowler in 2021 and is much hyped. He is delivering on his promise leading the Chargers to a winning 10-7 record last season. The Chargers open their season to the Dolphins on Sunday 10 September. With most passing TD’s by a Rookie QB, most passing yards and Most completions (396) he could be the next big deal.

3: Josh Allen, Bills

The Bills will be looking to Allen, a five-year veteran in Philly, for a winning season and a deep tun in the playoffs. Allen was drafted as the 7th overall pick by the Bills in 2018 and has lived up to expectations. He holds the NFL record for highest passer rating (149.0 in a single season (2021). The Bills open their campaign with an away trip to the Jets.

2: Joe Burrow, Bengals

Burrow is one of the most talked-about talents in the NFL and will be hoping for another rock star season. The Bengals QB was selected by the Cincinnati team as the first overall pick in the 2020 draft. The former Ohio State and LSU line caller has been impressive since signing for the Bengals in 2020. Impressive is perhaps too soft a word. He has been sensational and that is why he is ranked so high. The Bengals have had an-off color preseason with a loss to the Commanders and Packers and a tie against the Falcons. The Bengals open their campaign with a trip to the Cleveland Browns.

1: Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs

Who else but superstar Patrick Mahomes at number one? The Kansas City QB is fresh off a Superbowl win and will open the campaign with a Friday night game against the Lions. The team’s 38-35 Superbowl win last season over the Eagles was epic, and more is expected of Mahomes, if that is even possible. Mahomes was selected 10th overall in 2017 by the Chiefs and is a double Superbowl champion (LIV and LVII), a 2-time NFL MVP, 5-time Pro-Bowler, amongst a host of accolades. He is the complete package, with creativity aplenty, a strong arm and boundless athleticism.
