Esiason, who was discussing the matter on WFAN and CBS Sports Network, expressed skepticism towards the former POTUS’s golf prowess.
Trump took to Truth Social to boast about his achievement, stating, “I am pleased to report, for those that care, that I just won the Senior Club Championship at Bedminster, shooting a round of 67.”
However, both Esiason and radio host Jerry Recco were unconvinced by Trump’s claim.
Recco questioned Esiason about the plausibility of shooting a mid-60s score from the senior tees at Bedminster, to which Esiason confidently responded with a resounding “No.”
Comparing their respective golf swings, Recco expressed doubt that Trump could achieve such a score if Esiason himself couldn’t.
Esiason further questioned whether Trump’s claimed score was a gross 67 or if it included his handicap. Highlighting the absence of handicap information in Trump’s statement, Esiason labeled the claim as “fake news,” suggesting that Trump was misleadingly implying a gross score.
It is worth noting that Trump’s handicap is reported to be 2.5 according to the USGA’s Golf Handicap Information Network, a figure disputed by Rick Reilly in his book Commander in Cheat.
This raises questions about how Trump managed to achieve a score of 67 without the assistance of his handicap.
Reilly’s book also sheds light on Trump’s golfing abilities, describing his tendency to bend the rules and exaggerate his skills.
Trump’s alleged score of 67 is not the only dubious claim he has made recently.
Upon turning himself into Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, Trump stated that he stood at 6-foot-3 and weighed 215 pounds, a statement met with widespread skepticism.
