“We believe in second chances” Howie Roseman on signing suspended CB Isaiah Rogers The Eagles are surely way ahead of everyone before the 2024 season

Defensive back Isaiah Rodgers, suspended for at least this season for violating the league’s gambling policy, was signed by The Eagles this week.

While he won’t take the field anytime soon for the Eagles, Roseman still thinks Philadelphia made the right decision.

Rodgers was on the reserve/suspended list after joining Philadelphia, and the team cannot have any contact with him.

Head Coach Nick Sirianni knows Rodgers from their time in Indianapolis.

On Tuesday, General Manager Howie Roseman said the Eagles did work on Rodgers while entering the league.

“He is a talented guy, and he made a mistake, and he has apologized for that mistake,” Roseman said in his press conference.”

“We believe in second chances, and now it’s on him. So, he’ll come in next year and be ready for the offseason program and training camp. I think he’s got (to) apply for reinstatement, so I’m not taking that for granted.”

Rodgers’ suspension stems from his breaking the NFL’s gambling policy.

The former Indianapolis Colts cornerback allegedly made hundreds of bets, sometimes on his team, leading to his suspension.

Immediately after the NFL announced his year-long punishment, the Colts released him.

Before that suspension, Rodgers was a useful weapon on the field.

Not only did he play cornerback, but Rodgers flashed at times in the special team’s department.

Rodgers has appeared in 45 games over his three-year career, starting ten.

He has made 90 tackles with ten passes defended and three interceptions.

Rodgers has returned a kickoff for a touchdown and has averaged 27 yards throughout his 61 kick returns.

Rodgers has been an effective kick returner, averaging 27.0 yards per return in his career, with one taken back for a touchdown.

He’s also recorded ten career passes defensed, a forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries.

The Colts released Rodgers in June after the league announced his suspension for gambling on NFL games.

He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement during the 2024 offseason.

Though Isaiah Rodgers remains suspended for the season, Howie Roseman and the Eagles still decided to take a chance on the former Colts CB.
