After winning their second Super Bowl in just four years, the Kansas City Chiefs are now focused on taking the next steps to win their third one.
Although it is not uncommon for players to negotiate contract extensions during the offseason, defensive lineman Chris Jones might have a shot at contract Extension.
#Chiefs GM Brett Veach says he's hopeful that DT Chris Jones will play in their season opener vs. the Lions, which is just eight days away.

However, it appears that as Jones has been seeking his new deals, he has exempted himself from Kansas City’s offseason preparations, and that includes the mandatory minicamp.
Despite the ongoing negotiations with Jones, General Manager Brett Veach remains optimistic about reaching a favorable resolution soon enough.
Jones, the 28-year-old football athlete recently had an incredibly successful season and now just has a year remaining on his contract in which he’s set to get paid $20 million for the season and will have a $28.29 million cap hit.
However, as the team celebrated receiving their championship LVII rings on Thursday night the head coach Veach dropped an update on the state of negotiation between the team and lineman Chris.
“We have great communication and there’s a lot of time before camp,” Veach said. ” feel good about where we’re going to be with Chris.
We’ll get to celebrate tonight and have a good time, break tomorrow, and I’m sure we’ll have great dialogue from now to the start of training camp and look forward to Chris being here not just for next year, but for a long time.”

When asked about the target date of the extension and why no specific date has been given yet Veach replied;
“Listen, we have a long history together and we have a great relationship with his agent. I mean, these things usually get worked out right before or right during the first start of camp so we anticipate the same, and we’ll see how it goes.”
With two Super Bowl titles under his belt and being selected to the All-Pro team four times, Jones has proven himself to be amongst the best defensive tackles and pass-rushers in the league.
In the 2020 season, defensive lineman Chris Jones achieved a career-high of 44 total tackles and recorded a career-high-tying 15.5 sacks contributing to the Kansas City Chiefs’ success in clinching their second title in four years.
