In August 2019, Kate Upton guest starred on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and opened up about the uncanny similarities between her marriage to Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander and the classic romantic comedy ‘Fever Pitch.’
Upton revealed that just as Drew Barrymore’s character found herself navigating the world of baseball fanaticism in ‘Fever Pitch,’ Upton has embraced the world of baseball through her marriage to Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander.
Upton drew parallels between her life and the movie ‘Fever Pitch’ after host Jimmy played a video from a red carpet interview where Justin Verlander was asked the secret behind winning over a supermodel wife.
To which, Verlander quipped saying:
“Man, there’s no secret. I recently watched a movie, Fever Pitch. It still holds up.”
As the clip ended, Kate Upton couldn’t help but affirm Verlander’s assessment of the movie’s enduring appeal.
“Honestly, it still does really hold up,” Upton admitted with a smile.
Upton went on to share her own experiences that mirrored Drew Barrymore’s character in ‘Fever Pitch.’
“Every time she’d get so mad because she had to look at the Red Sox schedule before planning, like a wedding, or going to Paris — that’s what I have to do,” Upton laughed.
Kate further described how her life has become intricately intertwined with the Houston Astros’ schedule and stressed the challenges and joys that come with being a baseball player’s spouse.
Kate Upton and Justin Verlander reportedly met while shooting a commercial for the video game “MLB 2K12” in early 2012.
In May 2016, the couple got engaged. Kate Upton showed off her engagement ring at the Met Gala, confirming the news.
The pair got married on November 4, 2017, in a romantic ceremony in Tuscany, Italy, and their wedding was attended by friends and family.
Together, they have a five-year-old daughter, Genevieve.
