Kansas City Chiefs head coach is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. A two-time Super Bowl Champion, former AP Coach of the Year Award winner, and fifth on the all-time wins list among head coaches, part of what has made him such a special coach is his willingness to trust others, as seen by this story he recently shared:
Andy Reid once used a JANITOR'S play design in a game…and it WORKED! #Chiefs pic.twitter.com/mXYdgY8bi7

Reid appeared on former NFL defensive lineman Chris Long’s podcast series, Green Light, and Long was discussing a rumor he heard about the head coach sending scouts to lower-level football programs to find new concepts to instill into his scheme.
He then asked Reid if he had ever taken anything from a high school football scheme and Reid didn’t hesitate to share his story about using a janitor’s play design in a game.
“I took one from a janitor one time at Green Bay… this guy kept telling me… ‘I’ve got this play for you.’ And he kept telling me this over and over. Finally, I said okay, ‘here’s a card. Draw up the play.’ And he drew up the play and I go ‘Dang, that’s pretty good.’”
Reid added that he called the play once and it worked, resulting in a touchdown for the Packers right before halftime. The moral of the story may be to never judge a book by its cover. While the man may have been a janitor, it didn’t stop him from being able to dial up a play that impressed one of the greatest coaches ever.
