Who is Jasson Dominguez? The outfielder prospect called up by New York Yankees

The Dominican Republic outfielder Jasson Dominguez has finally been called up to the Majors, with the Yankees adding him to their roster yesterday.

He will be activated in Houston and will ostensibly make his debut against World Series winners, the Astros.

‘The Martian’ was first called up to the Yankees in the 2019/20 season as a top ranked prospect, signing for a franchise record $5.1 million (signing bonus).

With Covid-19 wreaking havoc he did not play in his first season (in the Minors) and was sent to a Baseball Academy in Santiago.

He became the first player to play in the All-Star Futures game without a stint in the Minors. He was last playing at the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders in the Class AAA International League.

The Yankees are desperate for a return to a change in franchise fortune, lying bottom of the AL East Conference, with a losing 65-68 record.

The Yankees are on a three-game win-stretch, after a poor nine-game losing streak.

The highly rated Dominican has been labelled the new Mickey Mantle or Bo Jackson, and his crazy fitness social media videos are viral for all the right reasons. It is no wonder the fans have dubbed him, “El Marciano”.

Whether he can live up to the legendary Mantle and Jackson will remain to be seen. He is a Yankee now, so anything is possible.
