One of the star attractions at any NFL game is the running backs, and they are involved in some of the most spectacular, eye-pleasing performances on any given Sunday (or Monday, Thursday, Friday).
But Titans RB Derrick Henry feels the players that ply their trade in this position are often short-changed.
"Have you all witnessed it? I’m pretty sure you all have … we are trying to show that we are [as] valuable any other position," he recently said.
They are almost as fast as any player on a roster, and almost as strong and their athleticism should be rewarded in the back pocket, believes Henry.
According to the latest salary estimates, Henry earns $10.5 million a year, second only to the Nick Chubb of the Browns, who pockets $10.85 a year.
To put this in perspective LA Chargers QB Justin Herbery will earn $52.5 million this year, after having signed a $262.5 million five-year deal.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will be banking $52 million, while Jalen Hurts of the Eagles putting away $51 million.
The top 15 earners are all quarterbacks and give some credence to Henry’s summation.
The highest paid non-QB is defensive end Aaron Donald from the LA Rams who will earn $31.66 million, while Quinnen Williams of the Jets picks up $24 million a season.
The top 23 defensive lineman also earn more than Henry.
Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins earns $30 million a year, while Davante Adams (Raiders), Cooper Kupp (LA Rams) and A.J. Brown of the Eagles all banking more than $25 million a year.
The highest paid punter is Michael Dickson of the Seahawks ($3.67 million).
"Kind Henry" is the Offensive Player of the Season (2020), 2-times NFL rushing yards leader and two-times rushing touchdown leader (2019 and 2020).
The Alabama Crimson Tide player makes a strong point, but unless there is consensus among HC’s and GM’s countrywide, this is nothing more than a pipedream.
