Cobb’s hit on McCain was indeed dangerous, violating the NFL’s rules on excessive force and unnecessary roughness. The impact of the hit caused McCain’s helmet to fly off, and he sustained an injury that prevented him from continuing the game.
Upon reviewing the incident, the NFL promptly reprimanded Cobb, acknowledging the gravity of his actions NFL went further to issue Cobb a fine of $13,899 for unnecessary roughness, an illegal blindside block on Giants DB Bobby McCain in last week’s preseason finale. McCain entered concussion protocol.
