The final two automatic qualification spots of the 2023 European Ryder Cup Team have been claimed. Robert MacIntyre was the first player to solidify his spot on the roster before Matt Fitzpatrick swooped in to claim the final spot on captain Luke Donald’s squad.

The Ryder Cup is set to take place on Friday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 1. The tournament will be hosted at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club located in Rome, Italy.

MacIntyre becomes the first and only rookie to secure an automatic bid to the Ryder Cup. His presence at the Ryder Cup will be worth watching after he won last year’s Italian Open, which also took place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. His familiarity with the course could prove to pay dividends for the European team.

Fitzpatrick is slated to make his third Ryder Cup appearance in 2023 on behalf of the European Team. His experience in events of this magnitude could go a long way for a team filled with several young golfers.

Fitzpatrick and MacIntyre round out a 12-player lineup consisting of Rory Mcllroy, Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Åberg, Sepp Straka, and Nicolai Højgaard.

Luke Donald was asked by Sky Sports News to give his thoughts on the team he assembled to represent the European Ryder Cup Team, to which he responded, “We’re twelve strong now.” It seems as though Donald is excited about the prospects of his team and their chances to win the Ryder Cup this year.
