The Kansas City Chiefs maybe would have to play without defensive tackle Chris Jones for their regular-season opener against the Detroit Lions, but they are optimistic about the availability of wide receiver Kadarius Toney.
Despite missing a significant portion of training camp and the entire offseason due to a knee procedure, Toney is back on track to play in the upcoming game.
Coach Andy Reid expressed confidence in Toney’s status, stating that he is currently in good shape and moving well.
“Right now, he’s good to go,” coach Andy Reid told reporters on Sunday, via Tyler Sullivan of CBSSports.com. “He’s moving around pretty good.”
This is a positive development for the Chiefs, as they traded for Toney last season and have high hopes for him to become their number-one receiver.
In his limited playing time with the Chiefs last season, Toney recorded 14 catches for 171 yards and two touchdowns in seven games, and also contributed 59 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, during the Super Bowl LVII, Toney’s performance proved crucial in the Chiefs’ stunning comeback victory against the Eagles.
Although he had just one catch, it turned out to be a game-changing touchdown that shifted the momentum in favor of the Chiefs in the second half.
The first official injury report of 2023 will be updated on Monday, it will serve as a crucial update on Toney’s injury status.
The report will reveal whether he is still regarded as injured and provide insight into the extent of his participation in practice.
