The drought in defense for the Los Angeles Chargers for the last two seasons under coach Brandon Staley is hopefully going to be over with Derwin James, leading the charge.

James, who signed a whopping $76.4M Contract is considered as one of the best players on the defensive side in the NFL.

The year 2023 is anticipated as the season for improvement and a chance to solve the team’s defensive struggle. James’ return from injury will finally coalesce for the Chargers, a team that has conceded 22.6 points per game in 2022.

James will be contributing colossal in the defense line for the Chargers in the coming years.

He will be staying with the teams for the foreseeable future, and his $19.1 million wage annually is the club’s highest ever for a strategy for safety.

The Chargers deal with James came at the right time when he was on the edge to become a free agent. The agreement reached in 2022 was a greater deal that was made at the right for both.

James’s first season after his first round of the 2018 draft he managed to bag 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, 13 pass breakups, and 105 tackles putting him in the list of being named a Pro Bowler.

Responding to the Los Angeles Times on his contribution to the team and his view, he said:

“A bunch of grown men coming together,” “We’re not kids. We’re not little boys. When a bunch of grown men make up their minds, and they’re tired of something, that’s when things change.”

In a recent report, he also gave some of his ideas and said what change it will bring:

Adding Kendrick’s in the middle should help some in the run game, but the entire defense needs to take a step forward in Staley’s third season.

James said, “We definitely want to be that dominating group that we all know we can be,” “We’ve got the pieces to do it. We’ve got the guys to change that narrative.”
