It has been reported that the San Francisco 49ers and their star pass rusher Nick Bosa are at an impasse in current contract negotiations with the two sides being $2 million apart in yearly salary. Despite the ongoing contract dispute, Bosa is “ready to go and ready to report.”
Bosa was selected by the 49ers as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and has proved to pay dividends since. He has reached the Pro Bowl in three of his first four seasons and earned First-Team All-Pro honors last season en route to being named the 2022 AP Defensive Player of the Year.
The 49ers went 13-4 in 2022 while holding their opponents to a league-low 17.6 points per game. Bosa and the defense played a huge role in why the 49ers were one game shy of reaching the Super Bowl last season despite having three different starting quarterbacks under center throughout the season.
In 2022, Bosa posted a league-leading 18.5 sacks while adding 19 tackles for loss, 48 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles. He can single-handedly wreck a team’s offensive game plan with his ability to wreak havoc and create pressure in the pocket.
Not often do you see a defensive player listed on the NFL MVP voting ballot, but Bosa finished sixth in the polling process last season for his efforts. In fact, only two defenders have ever gone on to win the award (Alan Page and Lawrence Taylor).
While there is still work to bridge the gap in financial demands from Bosa and what the 49ers are willing to give, Bosa’s prepared to play while his agent hammers this out with the front office.
