Jerry Jones dishes on Dak Prescott and the large contract with Dallas Cowboys

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, voiced on quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract future. Prescott’s contract with the Cowboys is slowly nearing its completion, and the long-term outlook is yet to be decided.

In an interview on 105.3 radio show, Jones was outspoken on Prescott’s contract, he said the contract is on his mind strongly and believes it will be concluded soon. He also added that the Cowboys expect Dak to be with the club for a long time.

Following on the new large contract Prescott is eyeing, Jones affirms the negotiating table is open for business and a deal can be signed at any time of the hour, even during the season. He assures them that the numbers on this big contract are discussed, but difficult to put in exact numbers.

He added it can be during a season. As things are still building, he said “How you start a season off is not how you end a season with a short-term and long-term look, either.”

As the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, Jones has the authority to bring a final decision on Prescott’s contract. Prescott is eyeing a new deal in 2024 with a $59 million cap hit with the end of his 2021 contract.

Dak Prescott is entering his eighth season with the Dallas Cowboys. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He was also named Offensive NFL Rookie of the Year in 2016.

The quarterback has also been named two times to the Pro Bowl. Prescott had signed the most promising contract with the franchise back at the start of the 2021 season.

The 2021 contract cost the club $160 million, which to source is what was more than the amount Jerry Jones spent for the Dallas Cowboy Club and Texas Stadium in 1989.

In 2022 Prescott was honored by the NFL as the 2022 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year this brings many lucrative aspects to his contract extension and also the business decision Jones has to take.
