In a classic case of life not always going as planned, Duke University’s star quarterback, Riley Leonard, learned that his heroic performance on the football field didn’t earn him a break from his academic responsibilities.

In a remarkable turn of events, Leonard played a pivotal role in Duke’s impressive 28-7 upset victory over the ninth-seeded Clemson Tigers during their season opener in 2023.

He amazed everyone by passing the ball for 175 yards and running with it for 98 yards, even scoring a 44-yard touchdown. This victory was extra special because it’s been a really long time since Duke beat such a highly-ranked team, all the way back to 1989.

Following the game, Leonard took to social media to make a heartfelt request for an extension on a homework assignment due on the same day as the match. He thought that because he played really well in the game, his professor might give him more time for his homework. But the professor’s answer was a surprise for everyone.

”Professor Taylor, if you are seeing this please let me turn in my homework late because it’s due tonight, I think at 12”: Said Duke

“Wesley Williams and the other linemen who were in the class, said they prepared ahead and did it ahead of time, so why didn’t the quarterback? So no way, man. No extension.” : Said Taylor.

His professor, Donald H. Taylor from the Sanford School of Public Policy, congratulated Leonard on the win but declined his request for an extension.

Professor Taylor explained that other members of the football team, specifically the linemen like Wesley Williams, had managed to complete their assignments ahead of time. Thus, he questioned why the quarterback hadn’t done the same.

As Leonard gears up for the upcoming game against the Lafayette Leopards, he’s got to figure out how to juggle his football duties with his schoolwork. It’s a bit of a balancing act for him.
