Russell Wilson’s first year with the Denver Broncos didn’t exactly go as planned. After being traded to Denver by the Seattle Seahawks, expectations for the Broncos became mile-high (pun intended). After a down year, people are counting Wilson and the Broncos out and Wilson hears all the outside noise.
Per Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette, Wilson "doesn’t deny he has receipts in [his] ‘back pocket’." Wilson added: "I’m used to some of those who believe and some of those who doubt…"
He’s not wrong. When Wilson was drafted, several people were questioning the Seahawks’ decision to pick him in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft due to concerns about his small stature and how it could translate to the NFL.
Since then, Wilson has gone on to earn nine Pro Bowl selections as well as lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl in 2013. Now, he has to show his critics and doubters that he can do it again, and he certainly seems ready for the challenge. "… I think I’ve proven that throughout my career what I can do and I got to do it again," said Wilson.
Like Wilson, University of Colorado head coach Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders was not shy about admitting that he had heard all of the criticism and doubt looming over Colorado’s decision to make him the head coach and what they can accomplish with him as their coach.
Sanders has gotten off to an impressive start after defeating last year’s runner-up in the NCAA National Championship Game on their home field. We’ll see if Wilson can also get off to a hot start to start his season when the Broncos play the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1.
