LA Clippers have found themselves entangled in controversy as they face the collective wrath of Taylor Swift’s fanbase for the removal of her championship banner from Crypto.com Arena, the home for the Lakers and Clippers.
Apparently, in late 2020, the astute Los Angeles sports reporter Arash Markazi brought to light the peculiar disappearance of Swift’s championship banner, which was a gift to the pop sensation from the late Lakers legend, Kobe Bryant for her 16 sold-out shows performed at the venue in August 2015.
With a little investigation, it was found that the banner had been unceremoniously folded up and relegated to obscurity in a storage room within the arena itself.
So, what went wrong?
Swift’s cherished banner became the subject of ridicule, with Clippers fans weary of the ongoing jokes comparing the number of championship banners Swift possessed to the Clippers’ notorious zero. In an attempt to quell the taunts, the Clippers decided to take drastic measures.
Fast forward to the 2020-21 NBA seasons, and Swift’s banner was nowhere to be found.
In its place, the Lakers proudly displayed their championship banner, earned during the NBA bubble.
The news of Swift’s banner being tucked away in obscurity recently surfaced and Taylor Swift fans took to X to express their outrage for the Clippers’ actions.
Here’s how Swifties reacted on X:
“Lol this is why it will always be fuck the Clippers. LA will always be run by the Lakers.”
“If they have a problem with it, they should stop being trash. I can’t wait until they get their own shitty arena to hang selfies in.”
“They mad Taylor Swift bigger than the whole franchise lmao. That’s tuff.”
“Clippers organization can’t get lower than this.”
“This is why the Lakers are the superior LA team.”
“Clippers fans will never stop getting clowned after this.”
“The flippers.”
“That’s what happens when you’re a small franchise.”
In August, Taylor Swift electrified Los Angeles as her “Eras” tour attracted Swifties for a six-night extravaganza.
One of the standout moments of the Eras Tour in LA came when Taylor Swift belted out “Love Story (Taylor’s Version). The revamped version of this classic hit was met with a deafening chorus of fans singing along.
But the nostalgia didn’t stop there. “I Knew You Were Trouble (Taylor’s Version)” also made its presence known.
Swifties young and old reveled in the opportunity to witness Taylor Swift breathe new life into her beloved classics.
