Los Angeles Dodgers sensation Julio Urias found himself at the center of controversy on Sunday night.
The incident unfolded at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, coinciding with the high-profile soccer clash between LAFC and Inter Miami, featuring Lionel Messi.
As per New York Post, Urias was allegedly involved in a troubling altercation, which took place sometime after the conclusion of the soccer match.
According to initial reports, stadium personnel initially intervened to break up the confrontation, but matters escalated when Urias and the woman involved retreated to a nearby vehicle.
Police swiftly responded to the scene, extracting Urias and the woman from the vehicle and subsequently placing Julio under arrest for felony domestic violence.
The identity of the woman involved remains undisclosed at this time.
Adding complexity to the situation, it is worth noting that Julio Urias is currently in a relationship with Daisy Perez.
After spending a night behind bars, Urias was released on Monday, having posted a $50,000 bond.
Now, Julio Urias has a court date scheduled for September 27, 2023, looming on the horizon.
In a swift response to the situation, Major League Baseball (MLB) has taken immediate action by placing Urias on administrative leave.
This move will remain in effect “until further notice” as MLB launches a thorough investigation into the matter.
During this period of leave, Julio Urias will continue to receive his salary but is prohibited from taking to the baseball field.
Los Angeles Dodgers are set to recall Ryan Pepiot, to take the mound in place of Julio Urías this Thursday. This breaking news comes straight from MLB.com’s Juan Toribio.
Urias’ 2023 unsettling incident bears an eerie resemblance to a previous domestic violence allegation in 2019 when Urias was accused of pushing a woman in the parking lot of the Beverly Center.
Although he was not formally charged, MLB suspended him for a substantial 20-game period under their Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy.
