Caleb Williams has been the presumed No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft ever since he decided to transfer from Oklahoma University to the University of Southern California. However, Williams has threatened to stay in school another year if he doesn’t feel comfortable with the situation he could be stepping into in the NFL.

“He can come back to school,” Williams’ father said when asked about him staying back in school if he doesn’t want to play for the team with the first pick in the draft. As it stands, the Arizona Cardinals are currently projected to have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Although, the Cardinals seem to already have their franchise quarterback on the roster. They drafted Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and since then, he’s earned AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors as well as two Pro Bowl appearances.

Not only has Murray been successful as an NFL quarterback in his brief career, but the Cardinals also just rewarded him with a massive long-term contract for his efforts. He signed a five-year, $230 million contract with nearly $160 million in guaranteed money to keep him with the Cardinals through the 2028 season.

Murray is currently rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered late last season and is still without a timetable to return to NFL action. It will be interesting to see if/how this impacts Williams and his decision to declare for the draft or stay in school after this season.
