Why was Saints QB Jake Haener suspended? All the details as rookie handed 6-game suspension

The New Orleans Saints rookie QB Jake Haenar was suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy.

Haener will miss the first six games of the season. He will also forfeit $250,000 of his $750,000 base salary.

He will only return for the week 7 clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars in late October.

The youngster played a starring role in his team’s preseason win against the Kansas City Chiefs, winning 26-24 and throwing for 105 yards.

“I recently learned that I tested positive for a substance banned by the NFL earlier in the summer,” the rookie said on an Instagram post.

“I still do not know how the substance got into my body, as none of my supplements or prescribed medication contain the banned ingredient,” he added.

“I would never knowingly cheat the game I love, however I must take responsibility for this failed test,” he concluded.

The former Fresno State player was the 127th pick of the 2022 draft and is still an active player for the Saints this campaign.
