Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is keeping a close eye on the contract talks between Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings.
The current Offensive Player of the Year is set to receive a contract extension worth a staggering $30 million per year and Chase is watching with eager eyes and a hungry wallet.
Chase is doing exceptionally well for the Cincinnati team, wining the 2021 NFL Rookie of the Year, following that up with a Pro-Bowl appearance last campaign.
The former LSU student went for number five overall in the 2021 draft and is a winner of the prized Biletnikoff Award at college.
He has 168 receptions for 2,501 receiving yards and 22 receiving touchdowns.
The WD has blossomed at the Bengals, especially after teaming up with his former LSU Tigers teammate Joe Burrows at quarterback.
The pair have been dynamic, and Chase is in year three of his four-year contract, worth $30.8 million.
He is the first player in Bengals history to wear the number one jersey and will be hoping to topple Jefferson’s pending new salary when he is eligible for an extension or trade.
Chase made his debut, ironically against the Vikings on September 12, 2021, and finished with 101 yards and a TD with the Cincinnati team running out 27-24 winners in overtime.
He followed up that performance by catching an additional three TD’s and became the youngest player to score four touchdowns in the NFL, winning the NFL Rookie of the Month.
He suffered with injury in 2022 but still managed to lead the team in in receptions (87) and 1.041 receiving yards.
He starred in the Bengals’ Wild Card play-off win against the Ravens, following that up with five receiving passes for 67 yards in the Divisional Round win against the Bills.
The Bengals travel to Cleveland Sunday with a week 1 game against the Browns.
