According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network Insider, Trevor Lawrence will spearhead the offense, and Taylor will be in control of it.
The Jacksonville Jaguars feature one of the strongest and most exciting offenses in the league.
Press Taylor has been a trusted aide to head coach Doug Pederson for many years. Pederson told the NFL, “I totally trust Press,”
“We think alike. We’ve been together for a long time, and he’s around Trevor all the time and knows what Trevor likes”.
Taylor and head coach Pederson have been together earlier as well.
Pederson was acquired by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016, the same year, Taylor got promoted to offensive quality control and assistant quarterbacks coach.
He was under their new offensive coordinator, Frank Reich, who was a member of the Super Bowl LII winning coaching staff.
Taylor was given the chance to develop crucial experience by calling plays not just during the preseason but also during the second half of games during the prior season.
Head coach Pederson further said to the NFL, “It’s kind of like coach (Andy) Reid did with me in 2015 in Kansas City,”
“Coach Reid would call the first half and he would let me call the second half with a very watchful eye.”
It was under Perderson’s and the staff’s tutelage that the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII. He further expresses, “How does anybody gain experience if you don’t put them in position to be successful?”
“Press is a smart coach who has been in the league a long time. He’s going to be a head coach one day. What better time than right now with the team we have to get that experience”.
