Brock Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback, delivered a stellar performance in his NFL season opener, leading his team to a resounding 30-7 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Purdy’s display of confidence, composure, and efficiency was particularly notable. He completed 19 of 29 passes for 232 yards and threw two touchdowns to Brandon Aiyuk, all while earning a remarkable passer rating of 111.3. Purdy’s second touchdown, a deep pass to Aiyuk, caught the attention of observers, including Steelers cornerback Patrick Peterson, who was covering Aiyuk on the play. When asked about this specific touchdown during a post-game interview, Purdy made sure to acknowledge Peterson’s efforts.

He stated, “The second touchdown on the right side, the deep ball – was that on Patrick Peterson? Yeah, that one. I was there. That felt good. But it was good, man. He’s a competitor. I have nothing but respect for Patrick Peterson and everything that he does.”

Purdy’s performance silenced doubters and justified the 49ers’ faith in him. The team’s front office traded former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason, placing their confidence in Purdy. He now boasts a perfect 6-0 record as a regular-season starter, amassing 1,318 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just two interceptions.
