Watch: “The wildest, strangest Sunday afternoon” Yankees defeat Brewers in sensational fashion

Kyle Higashioka was the unlikeliest of heroes for the Yankees as he hit a game-winning double in the 13th innings to lead them to a draining 4-3 against the Brewers.

Higashioka is the longest tenured Yankee and the catcher enjoyed one of the most rapturous moments of his career, as he bounded off towards the dugout and his teammates, who almost stripped him naked.

“I was hoping they didn’t take everything off. Nobody wants to see that,” he said.

The Yankees did not make a hit through ten innings, struggling to come to terms with Corbin Burnes (first eight innings), but the Brewers also had no hits and no answers. The strangest of games was to come to the wildest of finishes.

Ther Brewers were close to coming to an AL/NL record 11 innings of no runs but were saved the blushes by Oswaldo Cabrera.

Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole was mightily impressive lowering his ERA to an AL-leading 2.79 and put his hand up for the Cy Young Award.

But the moment of glory belonged to one man, the hero amongst many in a bizarre game. Higashioka will remember this for the rest of his life.

The Yankees are still in last place in the AL East, but are closing in on the Red Sox, who they play each other in their next game.
