The Dallas Cowboys kicked off their season with a resounding 40-0 victory against their divisional rivals, the New York Giants. While quarterback Dak Prescott’s performance was solid, the game saw touchdowns from various phases of the Cowboys’ team.

The game started with some trouble for the Cowboys’ defense, as Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley made promising gains. However, chaos ensued when Giants kicker Graham Gano’s 45-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas, leading to a 58-yard touchdown return by cornerback Noah Igbinoghene.

The Cowboys’ pass rusher, Micah Parsons, also contributed by sacking Daniel Jones, while star receiver CeeDee Lamb made a crucial 49-yard catch from Prescott. Dallas managed to score field goals and defensive touchdowns in the first half.

Cornerback Trevon Diggs made a pivotal tackle on Saquon Barkley, doubling as a pass breakup, while fellow corner DaRon Bland intercepted a pass and returned it for a 22-yard touchdown.

The Giants’ offense struggled throughout the game, with Jones facing immense pressure from the Cowboys’ defense and being sacked seven times. He also threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard said of the chastening loss:

“We got our teeth kicked in tonight. We’ve got to bite that and come back to work”

Despite the rainy conditions, Dallas’s offense performed efficiently. Running back Tony Pollard, filling in for Ezekiel Elliott, scored two touchdowns, while undrafted rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey contributed ten points.

Prescott played a steady game, avoiding mistakes despite the challenging weather conditions. The Giants’ offense, on the other hand, struggled to find answers, with tight end Darren Waller not making a significant impact.

Overall, the game showcased the Cowboys’ strong defense and solid offensive line. While Prescott’s performance was not flashy, he managed the game effectively. The Giants, however, faced issues on both sides of the line of scrimmage, leaving them with much to address going forward.
