Former Colorado Rockies legend and future Hall of Famer Todd Helton has continued to make a positive impact on the state of Colorado after his time as a professional baseball player.

Helton has teamed up with RIP Medical Debt to announce a pact that will forego $10 million in medical debt for residents of the state of Colorado. The goal of this deal is to help Coloradans who cannot afford to pay their medical bills due to financial struggles.

Per the RIP Medical Debt website, the organization was founded “for the sole purpose of reducing the medical debt burdens of low-income individuals with limited capacity to pay their medical bills by leveraging donations from people across the country.”

Helton did so much for the state of Colorado during his time as a member of the Rockies but has not allowed retirement to stop him from continuing to make contributions to the state and society.

“As you get older, your purpose more and more becomes helping other people and making the world a better place in any way you can,” said Helton in Thomas Harding’s Rockies Beat newsletter.

A five-time All-Star, four-time Silver Slugger, three-time Gold Glover, and one-time batting title champion, Helton has cemented his legacy on the field as one of the greatest Rockies in franchise history. Now, he is looking to create a new legacy for himself in his next chapter as a philanthropist.
