In March 2023, Dak Prescott’s audacious decision saw him spend a staggering 11 hours under sedation, all for the sake of getting an enormous tattoo that would blanket his leg.

The procedure, however, wasn’t a typical tattoo parlor experience.

Prescott went above and beyond, ensuring that the sedation process was overseen by medical professionals.

So, when Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy learned about Prescott’s unusual offseason move, he was taken aback:

I was like, ‘whoa, what the … happen to your leg?’ So he shows it to me. I’m like ‘Jesus Christ, how long did that take? You’ve been doing it all week.

He said, no, I did it all at one time’. He showed me a video of it and like ‘Oh, my God’.”

“He’s extremely conscientious and he had a lot of people there. It wasn’t like just one guy, him and the tattoo guy. It looked like a professional operation.”

Interestingly, Dak Prescott himself acknowledged the unconventional nature of his decision, stating:

“People are gonna think it’s crazy and it is crazy. I get that. But I’m crazy. That’s my point is I am. I know I am. I’m not afraid of nothing.”

The quarterback, currently entering the third year of a lucrative four-year, $160 million extension inked in 2021, has been a pivotal figure for the Cowboys since he was selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Initially intended as a backup in his rookie season, Prescott rose to prominence when he assumed the role of starting quarterback after Tony Romo’s preseason injury.

In his rookie campaign, Prescott led the Cowboys to the top seed in the National Football Conference (NFC) and set numerous rookie quarterback records, earning him the title of Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Prescott’s career has continued to flourish, with two additional division titles and two Pro Bowl appearances to his name.

In 2022, he was honored with the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.
