Bills quarterback Josh Allen has taken his team’s opening day loss to the New York Jets personally and feels he let the team down.
The Buffalo team lost to the Jets 22-16 in overtime after a 65-yard walk-off touchdown by wide receiver Xavier Gipson.
The MetLife Stadium on Monday Night Football must have felt the loneliest place on earth for a shattered Bills team, and the QB is not shifting the blame to anyone but himself.
“Same s**t, same place, different day … I hurt our team tonight. I cost our team tonight,” the shattered line caller said after the match-up between the divisional rivals.
“This feels eerily similar to last year, and I hate that it’s the same. I do,” he added.
The Jets has New York buzzing with an electric ending, and for every sensational winner, there is a downcast loser, and Allen is squaring up big time.
Allen was guilty of turning the ball over too often, something he and the team tried consciously to avoid in the offseason, but the QB turned the ball over four times.
He also suffered his precious career low four turnovers to the Jets in 2019, also turning the ball over four times.
It is no wonder the MetLife Stadium feels like a curse for Allen.
He has 84 turnovers since entering the NFL in 2018, the most during the time frame, and he shares the misfortune of being the QB with the most overtime losses without a win or tie.
“It’s a long season,” said Bills coach Seam McDermott, “and sometimes you have to be reminded of these things, and it hurts with a loss, right?”
The Bills have a chance to right the ship when they entertain the 1-0 Raiders in week 2.
