The New York Jets and its fanbase are still processing the fact that they will now be without quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the rest of the season after he tore his Achilles just four snaps into his first game as a member of the franchise. With that said, there may be no one who is more distraught than Jets receiver Garrett Wilson.
"It really hurt my heart," said Wilson. Wilson appeared on the podcast series Bart & Hahn to discuss the aftermath of the catastrophic injury and was very candid when he spoke about what Rodgers’ absence means for himself and the rest of the team.
"He [Rodgers] brings a certain energy with him and man, we were trying to imitate it," said Wilson.
Rodgers is a future Hall of Fame player with an illustrious career who has won a Super Bowl and made several playoff appearances. He was doing his best to instill a culture in a franchise currently in the midst of the longest active playoff drought in North American sports.
Despite winning the Monday night game against the Buffalo Bills in epic fashion, the Jets lost their leader and their hope to compete for a Super Bowl. Now, the team must turn to former No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft Zach Wilson to rally the troops and right the ship.
[Garrett] Wilson and Rodgers were working tirelessly all summer to solidify their connection and emerge as one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the NFL, but after just four offensive snaps, that dream is being put on ice. Turning 40 in December, it remains to be seen what the injury means for Rodgers and the rest of his career.
