Just a few short days ago, the New York Jets coaching staff was gearing up for their first season with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Since, Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury just four snaps into his Jets tenure, leaving the Jets franchise and fanbase completely stunned.
Per FOX’s Senior National Writer Peter Schrager, the Jets coaches are “devastated” about Rodgers’ injury and “devastated for Rodgers.” Schrager added that he was texting with three different members of the Jets coaching staff, saying “they haven’t slept.”
Reports have confirmed that Rodgers ruptured his Achilles in the Jets’ win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. With Rodgers turning 40 years old in December, it is fair to wonder whether this is the end of what has been a Hall of Fame 19-year career.
The Jets acquired Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers this offseason. They sent their 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2023 sixth-round pick, and a conditional 2024 second-round pick to the Packers in exchange for Rodgers’ services.
The conditional 2024 second-round pick would become a first-round pick in 2024 if Rodgers played at least 65 percent of the snaps for the Jets this season, which is now no longer feasible.
Despite the devastation, the Jets and their coaching staff still have a season to play. While it won’t be easy, the coaches are going to have to move past this as quickly as possible and do everything in their power to put the active players on the roster in a position to succeed.
