NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently appeared on ESPN’s First Take to discuss the recent lawsuit involving former NFL media member Jim Trotter and the league. Trotter is suing the league for racial discrimination after his contract with the league was not renewed.

Trotter was known for constantly questioning Goodell’s commitment to maximizing diversity in the workplace and within NFL media at public press conferences. Not only did Trotter interrogate Goodell in the public eye repeatedly, but he also called for the league to act on racist comments made by team owners such as Terry Pegula and Jerry Jones.

On First Take, Goodell acknowledged the situation and the fact that the NFL “shares the same concerns” as Trotter while simultaneously pointing out that the allegations in the lawsuit date back several years and that the NFL has made progress since then.

“Is progress where we want it to be? No, it’s always slower than you want it to be. But I’m confident we’re moving in the right direction,” said Goodell. Goodell added that “it will be addressed,” about the ongoing lawsuit and allegations.

It remains to be seen when, how, and if the NFL will penalize Pegula and Jones for their comments and involvement in the lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed on September 12, 2023, meaning that this is only the beginning of the saga and there should be plenty of updates before this case is resolved.
