Social media can be a dangerous place. It allows people to take out-of-context comments and run with them, as seen on ESPN’s Get Up! When ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III appeared on the show to discuss the aftermath of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles injury and what it means for the team going forward.
Grant. Stop chasing clout. Do your job and post the whole clip instead of being a weasel. The point is Zach Wilson gives the Jets the best chance to win. No one off the street will save the Jets. https://t.co/xbqeKbuAN5 pic.twitter.com/K2yPFzrWsm

Following the injury, the Jets have announced that the team will be turning to backup quarterback and former No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, Zach Wilson. Despite the Jets making it known that they plan to bring in a veteran quarterback to replace Rodgers’ spot on the roster, Griffin alluded to the fact that this is now Wilson’s team.
When discussing potential veteran options on the open market, Griffin listed players such as “Carson Wentz, Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick,” and himself. Griffin hasn’t played in the NFL since 2020, so it left viewers perplexed when he put himself in the conversation.
Viewers were so puzzled by Griffin’s comment to the point that someone on X (formerly known as Twitter), created a viral clip that cut off the rest of Griffin’s comments, where he admitted that any of the quarterbacks he listed would be a distraction to Wilson and the Jets locker room.
Griffin, frustrated with the lack of context in the viral post, took to X to address his concerns. “Stop chasing clout. Do your job and post the whole clip instead of being a weasel. The point is Zach Wilson gives the Jets the best chance to win,” Griffin stated.
It is easy to see why Griffin took offense to the post. Viewers may take the viral clip as him trying to use his platform to make a case to be the new quarterback of the Jets, but he was really using himself as a reason for the Jets to stick with Wilson under center for the rest of the season and avoid any potential distractions.
