The Lions secured a surprising 21-20 victory over the defending Superbowl champions the Chiefs, and there is a good feeling the Detroit team could be on to a special year.
Scott Pioli is a big fan and one of the most seasoned analysts covering the NFL action and has served stints in the front offices of the Falcons, Browns, Jets, Ravens, Patriots and Chiefs.
He was involved in the Patriots from 2001-2008, a period where they won three Superbowl titles. He served as the franchises" Director and VP of Player Personnel at the New England team.
“They are going to be aggressive when they make decisions but they"re not going to be so aggressive that they are not thoughtful," he said after their sensational week 1 win.
“I had supreme confidence in Dan Campbell [last year] and their General Manager Brad Holmes. The reason is they built this football team in the image of both leaders …" he said in a broadcast earlier this week.
Dan “Motor City" Campbell is a former tight end, a Superbowl winner, with the New Orleans Saints, who beat the Colts, and another losing Superbowl appearance for the Giants in 2000.
He earned his coaching stripes at the Dolphins, first as an intern, then a tight ends coach, graduating to the interim head coach.
Her then moved back to the Saints where he served as the assistant head coach and the tight ends coach. He earned his Spurs and was appointed to the Lions HC position in 2021.
He led the team to a 9-8 winning record last season.

Pioli was full of praise for Campbell and his team, and the executive"s executive believes they could make the playoffs.
Pioli was also the on the coaching staff of Syracuse and Murray State.
He is a three-time Sports Illustrated NFL Executive of the Year amongst a truckload of other achievements in the game at a senior level.
“Dan Campbell is about smart football and clean football, doing the right thing," he added.
The Lions will host the winless Seahawks in week 2 and will be looking to go 2-0 on Sunday. They take on the Falcons in week 3. A 3-0 record will be an accurate measurement as to their championship qualities.
