“Unfortunately 9/11 is just a bad date for New York” OJ Simpson makes controversial comments comparing Rodgers injury to 9/11.

Former Bills running back and all-round bad dude OJ Simpson is receiving heaps of flak on social media after another controversial comments that went viral recently.

The former NFL MVP in 1973, has once again landed in hot water after comparing New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ injury to the 9/11 attacks on the city in 2001.

“Unfortunately, 9/11 is just a bad date for New York,” he told the hosts of the It Is What It Is podcast, featuring Ma$e and Cam’ron. The sports podcast is well-known for its colorful characters with the hosts being self-styled Harlem-rappers turned football analysts.

Simpson was referring to the injury suffered by Rodgers on the first snap of the Jets opening day win against the Bills on the same date 22 years after the tragic event played out across America.

The Jets won the game 22-16 in overtime with back-up QB Zach Wilsom coming good for the New York team.

Simpson’s comments are indicative of the glum outlook for the Jets after losing their ticker parade signing in week 1, but there was no need for the former RB to compare the football injury to one of the most devastating attacks in American history.

The Rodgers story is undoubtedly the biggest talking point after week 1 but is hardly comparable to a major tragedy.

Simpson has had several run-ins with the law, including the infamous trial of double murder, of which he was acquitted, the civil suit of the same crime, of which he was found guilty, the armed robbery and kidnapping charge which he was found guilty of (33 years in prison, parole after a minimum of nine), burglary, money laundering, tax evasion, drug possession, common assault and more.

He is hardly the upstanding role model, and the hosts chuckled along at the crass joke, making a mockery of themselves and becoming pariahs on social media.
