Jasson Dominguez Injury Report: Date of surgery, expected time of recovery, and more

Jasson Dominguez, also known as the Martian, took the MLB by storm when the New York Yankees decided to call him up to the major league roster. Unfortunately, that was short-lived after Dominguez suffered a season-ending elbow injury that will require Tommy John surgery.

Per Yankees manager Aaron Boone, the surgery is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Sept. 20 and the estimated timetable for a return to the major league lineup is roughly 9-10 months.

Dominguez made his major league debut on Sept. 1 and has given Yankees fans something to look forward to in the future after what has been one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory for the franchise. In his first career at-bat, he clobbered a home run against three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander.

The home run against Verlander was only the beginning. Dominguez hit four homers in his first seven major league games, becoming the youngest player ever to accomplish that feat. The switch-hitting centerfielder had a .258 batting average and drove in seven runs through eight in addition to the four home runs he hit before being shut down for the year.

A long road to recovery lies ahead for Dominguez, but he should be ready to return sometime next season barring any setbacks. The Yankees hope to have the 20-year-old phenom back on the field sooner than later, but there is a good chance he won’t be ready for the start of the 2024 season based on Boone’s expected timeline.
