What can’t Deion Sanders do? In addition to having a Hall of Fame NFL career and recording a .533 batting average in the MLB World Series, Sanders has now established himself as one of the best coaches in the country. Sanders has taken the nation by storm in his first season as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes Division I college football program.
Sanders, also known as "Prime Time" or "Coach Prime," is sitting atop the sports world and his former teammates are taking notice. While he is currently being recognized for rebuilding Colorado’s college football program with his ability to lead and motivate a group of men, his former MLB teammates experienced it first-hand during their playing days.
Jim Bowden, former general manager of the Cincinnati Reds during Sanders’ time with the team and current national MLB writer for The Athletic, said "I [he] never had a player in any clubhouse that cared more about winning and his teammates than Deion."
Despite being a larger-than-life icon, Sanders never let the fame get to his head. He always put the team first and made sure that his teammates knew it. "He wasn’t Prime Time, he was Deion in the locker room," former Reds manager Rick Stowe told The Athletic.
Sanders’ ability to inspire and captivate a locker room has enabled him to make a valuable contribution to any team he joins. The Colorado Buffaloes are just the latest example and what Sanders is doing with the program is unprecedented.
