After suffering a season-ending Achilles injury just four snaps into his first season as a member of the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers’ career is in jeopardy. Turning 40 in December, there is no guarantee he will be able to return from such a devastating injury. Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez is confident that Rodgers will make a strong comeback.

The Amazon Prime broadcast booth was doing their pregame coverage of the Week 2 Thursday Night Football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles and Rodgers’ injury came up as a topic of discussion which led to Gonzalez expressing optimism in Rodgers and his road to recovery.

“This is why you do the ayahuasca and the darkness retreat. It isn’t just for the good times; it’s for the bad times. He is mentally prepared to tackle this mountain… I can’t wait to see him back out there,” said Gonzalez.

Rodgers has become known for experimenting with ayahuasca, a plant-based psychedelic. He has gone on record to say that ayahuasca has helped him feel a “deeper love” of himself and overcome his “fear of death.”

This offseason, Rodgers also went on a “darkness retreat,” spending four days in a dark room with no phones, lights, television, or any potential distractions. After his final season with the Green Bay Packers, he was contemplating retirement and decided to use the retreat as an opportunity to sit with his thoughts and decide on his future.

If there is anyone who can come back from such a gut-wrenching injury at 40 years old, it’s Rodgers. As Gonzalez points out, Rodgers has used unique tactics to ensure he is prepared to overcome moments like this.
